As the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) kicks off this Sunday in Morocco, Egypt forward Omar Marmoush has boldly declared that the Pharaohs are not just aiming to win AFCON but also next year’s FIFA World Cup.

‎The Manchester City star says the Egyptian national team has the quality and confidence needed to conquer the continent and shine on the global stage.

“We are going to win the Africa Cup of Nations, of course, and then the World Cup,” Marmoush said in an interview with Foot Africa.

“Egypt is the best team in Africa. We don’t just want to say we’ve been to the World Cup we want to go there, get past the group stage, and show the world who we are,” he added.

‎‎Egypt heads into the tournament with high expectations, having been drawn in Group D alongside South Africa, Angola, and Zimbabwe.

The seven-time AFCON champions are eyeing their first title since 2010 after coming close in 2017 and 2021.

‎‎The Pharaohs have also qualified for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, where they will face Belgium, New Zealand, and Iran in the group stage.

‎With star players and strong belief, Egypt hopes to end their long wait for an AFCON trophy and make history on the world stage.
